The Cyclades, Greece

In the summer, we set off to discover the beauty of the Cyclades, a stunning group of islands scattered across the heart of the Aegean Sea in southern Greece. Known for their whitewashed villages, turquoise waters, and rich history, the Cyclades are among the most beloved destinations in the country.

Exploring the Cyclades: Our Summer Adventure in Greece

We planned a route that included five islands, staying in four hotels and one airbnb, traveling by ferry and local buses. To make things easier, we booked all our ferries in advance through Ferryscanner.com which turned out to be very convenient.

Our Itinerary

  • Mykonos
Our trip began in lively Mykonos, where we landed and got our first taste of Cycladic charm with its narrow alleys, windmills, and vibrant nightlife.

  • Syros
One of our absolute favorites. We stayed in an Airbnb overlooking Hermoupolis, the capital of the island. Waking up to sunrises and ending the day with sunsets over the neoclassical town was truly magical.

  • Naxos
Naxos welcomed us with long sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters—perfect for slowing down and enjoying the sea.

  • Santorini
Staying in a hotel in iconic Oia was a dream come true. The caldera views, whitewashed houses, and famous sunsets made it a highlight of our journey.

  • Paros
Our final stop, Paros, struck the perfect balance between lively villages and relaxing beaches, making it an ideal way to end the trip.

Practical Tips for Travelers

  • Book ferries in advance: The islands are well connected, but in summer the ferries fill up quickly. Using websites like Ferryscanner makes planning stress-free.

  • Stay central (or with a view): In places like Syros or Santorini, accommodation with a view makes the experience unforgettable.

  • Use public transport: Buses are reliable on most islands, and renting a scooter or car is a good option for exploring beaches further away.

The Cyclades offered us a mix of culture, relaxation, and unforgettable views. Each island had its own character, and traveling between them by ferry made the journey just as exciting as the destinations themselves. It was the perfect way to experience summer in Greece.
